China sets out guidelines for testing self-driving cars

China has set out its national guidelines for testing self-driving cars on its roads to ensure developments are safe but unhindered in a bid to ensure the country is a leader in the commercialisation of such vehicles. The guidelines have been jointly issued by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Public Security, and the Ministry of Transport. As part of the guidelines, local authorities have been granted permission to evaluate local conditions and take responsibility for arranging tests of autonomous vehicles in suitable areas.
