Taoglas expands IoT design center in San Diego

Taoglas USA has expanded its radio frequency antenna design center in San Diego to help automotive, medical device and other companies add Internet of Things connectivity to their products. The company said Friday that it is moving into a 16,000-square-foot building that includes a custom antenna and RF cable product design center — complete with acoustic chambers — and an assembly line for Internet of Things gadgets. The new building is four times bigger than the company’s previous facility in the region, which opened about five years ago.Headquartered in Ireland, Taoglas will be capable of producing about 10,000 parts per day in San Diego for customers, said Dermot O’Shea, president of Taoglas USA.“Quite often customers require products in a few days rather than weeks, and we have now facilitated that demand with this new move,” said O’Shea. The company established its U.S. footprint in San Diego mostly because of the local wireless engineering talent and the fact that it had customers here, said O’Shea. It also has an office in Minneapolis, Germany and Taiwan.
