Nexxiot, a worldwide TradeTech pioneer, will be one of the official providers for Hapag-container Lloyd's fleet's digitalization. Nexxiot will outfit a substantial portion of Hapag-3 Lloyd's million TEU fleet with cutting-edge IoT technology and analytics, allowing for the first time global monitoring of shipping containers, which are critical to global commerce. Hapag-Lloyd will be the world's first carrier to be able to track and evaluate the location, movement, and status of its standard containers in real-time.

The global economy relies heavily on intermodal contain transportation. Container shipping is becoming a more robust and transparent element of the global supply chain because of innovative sensor technologies like that created by Nexxiot and utilized by Hapag-Lloyd.

"This is the largest deployment of active hardware monitoring devices to date in the ocean and intermodal shipping space, with the potential to create a vastly more efficient and sustainable global supply chain. The location, status and associated processes of 'dry' containers on the high seas as well as during inland transportation are mostly untraceable today. TradeTech projects, such as those implemented by Hapag-Lloyd with Nexxiot as a system partner, change this paradigm," said Stefan Kalmund, CEO of Nexxiot.

Hapag-Lloyd LIVE will make the shipping firm the first in the world to be able to deliver real-time data and complete transparency on every container movement to all customers.

Nexxiot as a system partner provides us with an important technological building block. This allows us to detect delays earlier, automatically inform the affected customers and initiate countermeasures quickly. We are firmly convinced that not only our customers benefit from the new technology, but that this new approach will revolutionize the entire container shipping industry."

Olaf Habert, Director of Container Applications at Hapag-Lloyd

Nexxiot'sGlobehopper Edge, a unique IoT gadget that communicates real-time positions and temperature data, analyses container impacts, and can link to other sensors via Bluetooth, is driving the shift. The devices are developed and certified in compliance with the ATEX Product Directive for use in potentially flammable or explosive settings to protect the safety and security of personnel, cargo, and ships. For all stakeholders throughout the value network, the data is analyzed using the most up-to-date algorithms, and Big Data analytics provide important business knowledge on container fleet usage, key events, and supply chain operations.
