Any IoT device original equipment manufacturer (OEM) that intends to ship internet-connected devices to users in California in 2020 will need to abide by this new law. Given the population of California, for all intents and purposes, this new law will dictate the security strategy for all IoT devices shipped into the US in 2020. While this is the first state-level bill to become law, many more will follow at both the state and federal level (and globally).
The ideal scenario would be to implement IoT security that provides the flexibility to meet both existing and future guidelines.
Look for offerings that automate device onboarding and back-end provisioning with zero-touch capabilities.
Support over-the-air (OTA) provisioning.
Support the ability to restrict unwanted device communications.
