This document is a product of the CSA Mobile Working Group — IoT Initiative. The document was created using inputs from a number of security and mobility experts representing diverse industries. We have tried to incorporate references and information from existing guidance in the field whenever possible in order to avoid duplication and promote alignment with the work of other industry bodies. The guidance in this document has been created in a manner that allows for usefulness across industries. This was achieved by examining architectures across multiple industries and selecting security controls that would support each industry.

Role of IoT in HVAC

Article | February 14, 2020

Implementation of the “Internet of Things” in the modern world is gaining pace at breakneck speed. Society is moving away from standalone devices and entering the realm of inter-connectivity. With uses in different facets of life, such as personal gadgets, retail, electricity distribution and financial services, IoT is making its mark. One such application field of IoT is in Smart Homes, or more specifically in the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning industry (HVAC). According to a report by Zion Market Research, the global smart HVAC control market is expected to reach almost USD 28.3 billion by 2025 as compared to USD 8.3 billion in 2018. Amalgamation of the HVAC industry and IoT provides for vastly superior customer-centric services, enabling remote appliance control as a first step.

LIVING IN A SMARTER WORLD: WHY USE AI-ENABLED IOT IN HEALTHCARE

Article | February 14, 2020

Artificial Intelligence and Internet of things are hot topics now, as a consequence, integrating AI into IoT is becoming a common practice. The healthcare system is everybody’s business, so finding one's way around is equally important for all. Yet, keeping all the details in mind is no easy task. There are limits to human mental and physical performance. Thus going beyond one’s maximum has to be relegated to such technologies as the Internet of things and Artificial Intelligence. The implementation of innovative solutions in healthcare is always a good idea and IoT together with AI are strong drivers of the digital transformation regardless of what field the technologies are applied in. Municipal infrastructure, smart homes, retailing, manufacturing, supply chain, education, healthcare and life sciences — the entire digital ecosystem, an IoT ecosystem of connected devices, has been created and is growing stronger with each passing day. Empowered with Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, among other things, IoT is used as a means of equipping people with intelligent assistance. Gradually, it is taking over both minor and major processes in a number of industries. Healthcare is no exception.
