Africa lagging in IoT innovation

A Cisco VP has discussed the challenges with IoT innovation in Africa during the Internet of Things World Forum (IoTWF) in Dubai, UAE. Inbar Lasser-Raab, VP for products & solutions marketing for Cisco, said at the forum that Africa is showing fewer innovations in terms of IoT than other parts of the world. However, she highlighted strong potential from areas like agriculture and mining, and that some applications from other regions are starting to work in Africa. None of the five global smart city evolutions unveiled by Cisco are in Africa, and the company showcased over 20 connected industry and digital city deployments in Dubai (which is more than two times the solutions featured at the 2014 IoTWF event in Chicago.)
