Iterative to Launch Open Source Tool, First to Train Machine Learning Models on Any Cloud Using HashiCorp’s Terraform Solution

Iterative | April 28, 2022

Iterative, the MLOps company dedicated to streamlining the workflow of data scientists and machine learning (ML) engineers, today announced a new open source compute orchestration tool using Terraform, a solution by HashiCorp, Inc., the leader in multi-cloud infrastructure automation software.

Terraform Provider Iterative (TPI) is the first product on HashiCorp’s Terraform technology stack to simplify ML training on any cloud while helping infrastructure and ML teams to save significant time and money in maintaining and configuring their training resources.

Built on Terraform by HashiCorp, an open-source infrastructure as code software tool that provides a consistent CLI workflow to manage hundreds of cloud services, TPI allows data scientists to deploy workloads without having to figure out the infrastructure.

Data scientists oftentimes need a lot of computational resources when training ML models. This may include expensive GPU instances that need to be provisioned for training an experiment and then de-provisioned to save on costs. Terraform helps teams to specify and manage compute resources. TPI complements Terraform with additional functionality, customized for machine learning use cases:

  • Just-in-time compute management – TPI automatically provisions and de-provisions compute resources once an experiment is finished running, helping to reduce costs by up to 90%.
  • Automated spot instance recovery – ML teams can use spot instances to train experiments without worrying about losing all their progress if a spot instance terminates. TPI automatically migrates training jobs to a new spot instance when the existing instance terminates so that the workload can pick up where it left off.
  • Consistent tooling for both data scientists and DevOps engineers – TPI delivers a tool that lets both data science and software development teams collaborate using the same language and tool. This simplifies compute management and allows for ML models to be delivered into production faster.

With TPI, data scientists only need to configure the resources they need once and are able to deploy anywhere and everywhere in minutes. Once it is configured as part of an ML model experiment pipeline, users can deploy on AWS, GCP, Azure, on-prem, or with Kubernetes.

"We chose Terraform as the de facto standard for defining the infrastructure-as-code approach,” said Dmitry Petrov, co-founder and CEO of Iterative. “TPI extends Terraform to fit with machine learning workloads and use cases. It can handle spot instance recovery and lets ML jobs continue running on another instance when one is terminated."

About Iterative, the company behind Iterative Studio and popular open-source tools DVC and CML, enables data science teams to build models faster and collaborate better with data-centric machine learning tools. Iterative’s developer-first approach to MLOps delivers model reproducibility, governance, and automation across the ML lifecycle, all integrated tightly with software development workflows. Iterative is a remote-first company, backed by True Ventures, Afore Capital, and 468 Capital.

Nigeria’s Largest Telco, MTN, Launches RCS Business Messaging with Google and Dotgo

MTN Nigeria | December 23, 2021

Nigeria’s largest mobile network operator (MNO), MTN, is all set to launch RCS Business Messaging (RBM) Services in partnership with Google and Dotgo®, a Gupshup company and a leading cloud communications provider of RBM Solutions. RBM uses the rich and interactive features of Rich Communication Services (RCS)—the next generation SMS that allows sharing of audio, video, images, location, and a lot more—to enable branded business messaging. RCS messages are securely delivered to native messaging apps such as Google Messages and Samsung Messages on Android phones. Available on 3G and 4G networks, RCS is the default messaging standard for 5G networks. As of today, RCS is available globally with over 700M monthly active users. Dotgo’s MaaP (Messaging-as-a-Platform) is integrated with the Google Jibe RCS platform for business messaging, the world’s most advanced RCS platform that provides a high degree of scalability. As a partner, MTN would leverage the services provided by Dotgo such as the RCS APIs, chatbot directory, billing, payments, reconciliation, and more, to drive monetization from RCS. As Nigeria’s largest carrier, MTN is all set to onboard brands that can reach out to a vast majority of Nigerian customers and delight them with a user experience like never before, to boost lead generation and conversion rates. This is a great opportunity for brands to connect with the end consumers of Nigeria for sales and support” Lynda Saint-Nwafor, Chief Enterprise Business Officer at MTN Nigeria.

Omnispace and Lacuna partner to Deliver Global LoRaWANIoT Service

Omnispace | March 11, 2022

Omnispace, the business that is redefining mobile communications, announced a partnership with Lacuna Space to provide groundbreaking internet of things (IoT) service. This collaboration will make way for the commercial launch of a global, open-standards-based IoT network, which will be the first of its type. The LoRaWAN protocol will be used to allow direct-to-satellite connectivity for a variety of IoT devices. The protocol will use Lacuna's LR-FHSS technology, which was developed expressly for high-capacity IoT networks. It will operate on-orbit after several years of non-geostationary satellite testing and optimization. The service will allow devices to link easily across existing terrestrial networks and hitherto unconnected places worldwide, leveraging Omnispace's licensed 2GHz S-band spectrum rights and merging Omnispace and Lacuna infrastructure. Omnispace is reimagining mobile communications for users by employing standards-based solutions to deliver global, real-time connectivity. We're pleased to be working with Lacuna to introduce this new enterprise-class service, which is part of our broader vision to deliver seamless terrestrial and satellite communications." Ram Viswanathan, president, and CEO for Omnispace. In Q3 2022, this joint Omnispace-Lacuna endeavor will start servicing clients and distribution partners, enabling asset tracking, fleet management, and data collecting across industries throughout the world. The two businesses will use the LoRaWAN standard to provide low-power, ubiquitous connectivity by linking terrestrial networks with global satellite coverage. The first set of Lacuna sensors are about the size of a palm of a hand and can connect to a satellite for several years on a single charge, giving customers access to economic and streamlined communications. "We are happy to announce this agreement with Omnispace which accelerates getting our technology to market and enables us to start delivering our IoT services around the globe," said Rob Spurrett, CEO of Lacuna.
