Applications and services often need data at a higher level than the raw data provided by sensors. Moreover, data needs to be interpreted in the context of other sources of information. The same applies to control systems whose actions need to be translated in context into actions on lower level entities. The Web of Things needs to be able to model the real world at different levels of abstraction, and to enable open markets with free competition of services across these levels. The things in the Web of Things can be considered as virtual representations of objects.

Keysight and CTC advanced GmbH Collaborate to Test First Wi-Fi 6E Device

Keysight | December 07, 2021

Keysight Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: KEYS), a leading technology company that delivers advanced design and validation solutions to help accelerate innovation to connect and secure the world, and CTC advanced GmbH, a testing and certification laboratory, have collaborated to certify the first Wi-Fi 6E device. The device, a broadband home gateway, was tested against the most recent version of the European Telecommunications Standard Institute (ETSI) standard EN 303 687, introduced to regulate usage of the new Wi-Fi frequencies (from 5.9 to 6.45 GHz), a mandatory procedure to gain market access. As a certification laboratory, CTC advanced GmbH is facing demand for Wi-Fi 6E since the beginning of summer 2021. But up to now, no test solution was available on the market. Keysight enhanced the company’s IoT Regulatory Compliance Test Solution (IOT0047A) to simplify precompliance testing and post-test analysis with purpose-built test-automation software. Keysight’s IoT Regulatory Compliance Test Solution addresses the requirements of ETSI and FCC regulatory standards for IoT devices operating in Industrial, Scientific and Medical (ISM) frequency bands, delivering the following key customer benefits: Flexible and scalable system configuration generating accurate, reproducible results. Scalable configuration and reconfiguration to easily divide a full system into separate test stations that can be used in parallel to address different standards and test cases. Improved system performance with uncertainty reports of each hardware instrument used in the system. Expandable based on test requirements for better capital planning. Simplified test and automation of regulatory testing and report generation. Regulatory certification is a critical aspect when it comes to optimizing time-to-market of a wireless device. Keysight works closely with regulatory bodies like ETSI and FCC to enable all players of the ecosystem to test their design as early as possible against the new standards. We are proud of this successful collaboration with early adopters, which makes new technologies like Wi-Fi 6E a reality for the mass market. Boon Juan Tan, vice president and general manager, General Electronics Measurement Solutions at Keysight Technologies. About CTC advanced GmbH CTC advanced GmbH, based in Saarbrücken, Germany, provides competent consulting and highly precise testing and certification services across nearly any industry and product range for an international market access. Google Announces $450M Investment in ADT to Increase IoT Security Devices Adoption

Google, ADT Security Services | August 04, 2020

Google has announced a $450 million investment in security firm ADT to increase the adoption of IoT security devices. Often when you hear IoT and security in the same sentence, it’s because another device has been hacked. However, secure devices can actually improve the safety of premises (don’t be too shocked.) ADT is one of the most recognisable security brands in the world. You’ll almost certainly have seen one of the company’s somewhat iconic yellow alarms on the outside of a building to make anyone reconsider attempting a break-in. As part of the investment, Google’s Nest smart home devices – such as cameras and displays – will be sold and installed by ADT. The partnership between the two companies is expected to begin this year. Homes and small businesses will be the main targets for the security solutions.

Astrocast Network with One of Most Advanced Nanosatellite IoT Networks Goes Live

Astrocast | January 25, 2021

Astrocast reported today, that the Astrocast Nanosatellite IoT Network has formally gone live after the effective dispatch of five new satellites on the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. With this dispatch, the Astrocast Network gets perhaps the most exceptional nanosatellite IoT Networks accessible and the principal Swiss telecom satellite administrator. “This is a critical milestone for both Astrocast and a long list of customers and partners,” said Fabien Jordan, CEO of Astrocast. “With the Astrocast Network, our customers will have two-way communications with their IoT assets even into some of the world’s most remote and challenging regions. And these five satellites are just the beginning.” The Astrocast Network conveys the most far reaching nanosatellite star groupings available, for IoT companies hoping to screen far off resources. Since the fruitful dispatch of two pilot satellites in 2018 and 2019, Astrocast has expanded the force and execution of its nanosatellites fundamentally. The present Astrocast nanosatellites have multiple times more correspondence speed and locally available capacity. The Astrocast Network additionally includes: low-latency communications from asset all the way back to headquarters global L-Band spectrum ultra-low power terminals with low-profile patch antennas two-way communications satellite propulsion to avoid debris in space In addition, the Astronode S is two to three times less expensive than conventional bidirectional satellite IoT terminals. Astrocast will continue to grow this constellation with an additional 15 satellites on two launches later this year. “With this first commercial launch Astrocast is immediately expanding the capacity for IoT devices around the globe. Our initial focus is in solving the critical issues of IoT devices in remote areas for the AgTech, Livestock and Environmental markets,” Jordan explained. “We are now ready to fulfill the Astrocast promise and I couldn’t be prouder of the team.” About Astrocast: Astrocast SA is the most advanced global Nanosatellite IoT Network to tackle challenges in industries such as Agriculture & Livestock, Oil, Gas & Mining, Maritime, Environmental, Connected Vehicles, and IoT Devices. The Astrocast Network enables companies to monitor, track, assess, and communicate with critical remote assets from anywhere in the world. In partnership with Airbus, CEA/LETI, the European Space Agency, and Thuraya, Astrocast developed Astronode S, a cutting-edge terminal featuring low profile L-band antenna, ultra-low power consumption, and a small form factor. Founded in 2014 by a renowned team of experts, Astrocast designs, builds, and tests all of its products in-house, from the satellites to the terminals. The Astrocast Network will consist of 80 Low Earth Orbit (LEO) nanosatellites. Astrocast pilot customers include Actia, Marine Instruments and Wildlife Computers.
