A Security Framework for Military IoT Devices and Weapons Systems

When it comes to the cybersecurity standards of connected weapons systems and IoT devices used in military, it’s imperative to be able to verify their security robustness. Unfortunately, that’s not always easy, as different countries have various ways of acquiring and managing their weapons systems. It makes it very challenging to have a unified cybersecurity standard for IoT in this field. Still, cybersecurity experts need to work on solving this issue and providing alternatives to the current system. To sufficiently raise cybersecurity standards and protect the systems, we must come to a point where every country takes the same approach and uses the same evaluation framework. One of the solutions proposed by Hindawi takes those efforts a step closer to the final answer.

Hitachi, Infineon promote IoT tech for viral detection

Keeping the data secure in such detection is also going to be a challenge. One approach is to put a chip inside an IoT device when it is manufactured to enable strong authentication and secure communication, mainly to guard against device counterfeiting. Hitachi Vantara has touted forward looking infrared cameras (FLIR) cameras to detect the temperature of a person from a distance. That way a passenger on a train or a worker or a customer in a store can be non-intrusively screened, according to a blog from Mark Jules, global vice president of smart spaces and video intelligence.

Microsoft Introduces Seamless Integration of Azure IoT with Cisco IoT

An integrated Azure IoT solution provides the necessary software, hardware, and cloud services that businesses need to rapidly launch IoT initiatives and quickly realize business value. Using software-based intelligence pre-loaded onto Cisco IoT network devices, telemetry data pipelines from industry-standard protocols, like OPC-Unified Architecture (OPC-UA) and Modbus, can be easily established using a UI directly into Azure IoT Hub. Services, like Microsoft Azure Stream Analytics, Microsoft Azure Machine Learning, and Microsoft Azure Notification Hub services, can be used to build IoT applications for the enterprise. Additional telemetry processing is also supported by Cisco through local scripts developed in Microsoft Visual Studio, where filtered data can also be uploaded directly into Azure IoT Hub. This collaboration provides customers with a fully integrated solution that will give access to design tools, global connectivity, advance analytics, and cognitive services for analyzing IoT data.
