Given such examples, the Internet of Things (IoT) is seen as a way of living a smarter and safer life and its application is highly encouraged in medical establishments. However, digital transformation in healthcare isn’t without threats. It’s important to weigh all the advantages and disadvantages of implementing IoT systems in healthcare to be able to plan for ways to maximize the pros while mitigating the cons.
Most would agree that the adoption rate of the Internet of Things (IoT) has fallen well short of predictions. Given the proven benefits that the IoT can deliver, such as preventative maintenance and real-time asset management, it’s confounding that every company isn’t well on its way to leveraging IoT. There are far more attempts to adopt the IoT than successes, says Terri Foudray, founder and CEO of Rumble, as well as several reasons that the IoT is not meeting or exceeding adoption forecasts. The culprits behind adoption failures include the lack of available talent, the overwhelming and complex volume of prospective vendors, the lack of a solid business case to define success, and the derailing of initiatives caused by unanticipated political and cultural pitfalls that often accompany enterprise-wide technology adoption.
IoT protocol stack features have been specified by 3GPP, an engineering organisation that brings national Standards Development Organisations (SDOs) from around the globe to develop technical specifications for the 3rd generation of mobile, cellular telecommunications, UMTS. IoT devices have to interact with different network configurations worldwide. It is therefore important to ensure that these features are working well in all sorts of configurations, configured by different network operators. To address this challenge, digital identity and security provider Gemalto (a Thales company) and Rohde & Schwarz have teamed up to significantly reducing expensive and time-consuming drive tests of IoT devices.
Not too long ago, executives from manufacturing and related industries would not consider running their internet of things (IoT) initiatives from a cloud. Now? It’s hard to find one who doesn’t enthusiastically embrace some role for the public cloud. Makers of industrial IoT (IIoT) software platforms have undergone a similar change of heart, pivoting from making grand plans for multibillion-dollar global data center rollouts to wholeheartedly partnering with one or more of the hyperscale public clouds. So far, so simple: Public cloud is definitely now part of the industrial IoT story. But there are a multitude of ways to use a public cloud, from just installing your own software there to fully integrating with all of the cloud, development, and IoT services that the hyperscale public cloud platforms increasingly offer.
