Digi International Launches Digi WAN Bonding

Digi International, a leading global provider of Internet of Things (IoT) solutions, connectivity products and services, today announced the release of its latest value-added service — Digi WAN Bonding — to deliver true Gigabit speeds for dramatically enhanced network performance. This solution, which is fully integrated into the Digi technology stack, also dramatically improves Internet reliability and increases bandwidth for customers in the enterprise, industrial and transportation sectors.

Available as an add-on value-added service to the industry-leading IoT device and network management platform, Digi Remote Manager® (Digi RM), Digi WAN Bonding leverages the edge intelligence of Digi Accelerated Linux (DAL) OS, Digi’s powerful Linux-based operating system. Digi WAN Bonding enables customers running DAL OS on their Digi devices to centrally configure, deploy, and manage the bonding together of multiple WAN connections. This WAN aggregation provides a sophisticated blend of increased throughput speeds, WAN smoothing, packet redundancy, and seamless failover for always-on Internet connectivity.

Digi WAN Bonding yields four key benefits:

  • Increased bandwidth: By combining multiple connections, WAN bonding can provide a higher total bandwidth than any single connection for video streaming or file sharing.
  • Increased speed: Additionally, combining multiple WAN links supports increased speed for one or multiple devices, up to 1 Gbps maximum.
  • Improved reliability: WAN bonding also improves the reliability of your bonded communication channels. If a connection fails, the others continue to provide service.
  • Reduced costs: WAN bonding can also reduce costs, for example enabling enterprises to obtain lower monthly rates for multiple connections.

Improved network performance is of extreme benefit to organizations requiring excellent speed and resiliency for data-intensive applications. These include video streaming to multiple media displays, vehicle cameras, and video conferencing. By providing customers with hot failover protection, this service ensures that if one WAN connection fails, the other connection takes over, thereby minimizing network downtime. Digi WAN Bonding also allows companies to take advantage of multiple ISPs, which can result in cost savings when businesses can negotiate better pricing and/or secure a provider that offers the best value for their specific needs.

“Organizations the world over are constantly searching for ways to boost network speed and reliability,” said Kinana Hussain, Vice President of Product Management for Digi International. “By fully integrating bandwidth bonding technology with Digi’s DAL OS and Digi Remote Manager, we’re able to provide businesses that rely on their network for critical operations with ultra-fast, ultra-reliable network performance and cost-efficient connectivity they very much want and need.”

Digi WAN Bonding — developed in collaboration with Bondix Intelligence — is distinct in that it allows for a maximum throughput speed of up to one Gigabit per second, compared to max speeds of 200 Mbps from other WAN bonding services.

“At Bondix, we’ve been thrilled to partner with Digi on rolling out our Bondix S.A.NE technology as an add-on service to Digi Remote Manager,” said Martin Santner, Director of Sales and Business Development for Bondix Intelligence. “This collaboration simplifies WAN aggregation, putting the mission-critical capabilities of WAN bonding into the hands of those who need it, enabling them to offer faster, better, more reliable connectivity when and where it matters.”

S.A.NE, which is short for Simple Aggregation of Networks, is proprietary software engineered by Bondix Technology to ensure reliable voice, video, and data transmission connectivity for mobile and stationary deployments alike.

Consumer Technology Association Joins White House to Support Cybersecurity Labeling Program to Protect Consumers from IoT Attacks

prnewswire | July 20, 2023

The Consumer Technology Association (CTA) today joined officials from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the National Security Council (NSC) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) for the launch of the U.S. Cyber Trust Mark program to give consumers more information about the cybersecurity of the Internet of Things (IoT)-connected products they buy. "While walking CES this year, I saw IoT products that improve healthcare, transportation and energy efficiency. While IoT makes our world better, it also tempts bad actors to exploit consumers' connected devices," said CTA president and CEO Gary Shapiro. "Research shows consumers want more information on the safety and security of their connected devices, and we agree." Today's announcement is a prime example of what can be accomplished through public-private cooperation. This announcement was informed by recommendations that CTA made over the past five years. The program relies on a voluntary, dynamic product certification program that requires manufacturers to use specific security measures. That certification will help educate consumers and businesses about new connected products they're evaluating or purchasing. CTA has a proven track record seeding and leading public-private collaborations, as evidenced by its recent work with industry and the FDA to bring over-the-counter hearing aids to tens of millions of Americans. In the coming days, the FCC will launch the rulemaking process to support the Cyber Trust program. Consumers can expect to see certification-ready products at CES 2024. In the interim, CTA will continue to convene manufacturers, alliances, universities, consumer advocates, and CTA's own ANSI accredited standards body to work with federal officials as they craft final rules governing the program. As the FCC works to stand up the Cyber Trust Mark program, CTA, as the voice of the tech industry, will show that government and industry can work together to strengthen incentives for participation, and ensure manufacturers and retailers embrace this critical program. "CTA's work created the foundation for the U.S. Cyber Trust Mark to help consumers identify secure products," said Michael Bergman, Vice President, Technology and Standards, CTA. "This program will minimize label footprint on packaging, while allowing for flexibility in displaying web pages for specific security parameters to consumers for participating devices." Today's announcement was held at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building and included a trade-show-style exhibition showcasing the latest technology in internet-connected consumer products, including TVs, washing machines, and a range of consumer appliances. About Consumer Technology Association As North America's largest technology trade association, CTA® is the tech sector. Our members are the world's leading innovators – from startups to global brands – helping support more than 18 million American jobs. CTA owns and produces CES® – the most influential tech event in the world.

Comcast’s MachineQ Extends its Indoor Asset Tracking IoT Solution

businesswire | July 21, 2023

MachineQ, a Comcast Company, today announced newly extended capabilities of MachineQ for Indoor Asset Tracking, a real-time location system (RTLS) solution the company launched last year with new asset tracking tags and a space utilization solution. The company is unveiling a suite of active asset tags, including the Nano RT, Nano LP, the Dura ET, Dura PT, and Dura AC. These low-energy tags bring diverse form factors, environmental ratings, and capabilities to meet customers’ unique asset tracking needs—from low-profile tags for tracking small, hand-held assets to ultra-durable tags designed to withstand harsh environments. The Nano RT and Nano LP tags, in particular, offer enterprises distinct features and capabilities typically unavailable in a tiny form factor. For example, the Nano RT, one of MachineQ’s smallest tag form factors, has an up to 8+ year battery life and includes a remotely triggered LED for last-meter item finding in high-density environments. The Nano LP offers an up to 2+ year battery life and ultra-slim form factor, making it ideal for tracking hand-held assets, like tools or pipettes, without interfering with the ergonomics of the equipment. “These tags were purpose-built to offer customers flexible options for tracking and monitoring equipment and assets critical to their day-to-day operations,” said Gaurav Naik, Head of Engineering at MachineQ. “We leaned into the operational expertise of our team to evaluate how to fit in as many features and capabilities without compromising base requirements such as extended battery life. As a result, in life sciences, for example, these new tags can enable companies to track assets through solvent-based wash cycles in a wide temperature operating range – from -40ºC to +80ºC.” In addition to debuting the new asset tag form factors, MachineQ is augmenting its current suite of indoor asset tracking and facilities wellness solutions by adding space utilization. This new solution leverages privacy-centric sensors to count the number of people occupying a room, helping facility managers understand space utilization and traffic patterns.
