Particle updates P2 and Photon 2 Wi-Fi for mass-market applications

Particle
Particle, an integrated IoT Platform-as-a-Service designed to connect the disconnected, unveiled improvements to its next-generation embedded IoT Wi-Fi solutions in the form of the P2 and Photon 2 hardware modules. The Photon 2 (coming in late 2022) offers an improved feather form factor compatible development kit for quick prototyping, and the P2 module (generally available July 29) is powered by the Particle Platform-as-a-Service and boasts advanced functionality for low-cost, integrated designs in applications that are poorly served by cellular connectivity, like factory floors, hospitals, smart buildings, and security monitoring.

Enterprise IoT applications now have the flexibility of both Wi-Fi and cellular connectivity options for the first time. Customers previously relied on pricey and data-intensive cellular connectivity to their devices in order to have secure connectivity with the required computing power to operate enterprise applications. Particle delivers enterprise-grade security and communication standards, more potent computing, and supply safely assured availability with the release of P2.

For enterprise-grade applications, where RF performance, low power consumption, security, and quick time-to-market are crucial, Particle's Wi-Fi modules and development kits are created. These updated components are the successors to the P0/P1 and Photon/Argon and represent a new enterprise Wi-Fi product line. They add support for low-power Bluetooth, a more potent processor, more memory, and broader support for enterprise Wi-Fi configurations like 5GHz and 802.1X networks, as well as supply security (Secure Supply LP).

"We've seen an astonishing 700% increase in IoT cyber-attacks since 2019 and an inability for products to be future-ready against new and emerging standards. At Particle, device and network versatility and security remain a sticking point for Wi-Fi connected IoT devices. To keep pace with a constantly changing IoT cyber threat landscape and expanding customer choices for enterprise deployments, the P2 and Photon 2 updates provide the ideal balance of standardization and security for seamless forward compatibility that gives developers the power to get to market faster,"

Each of the aforementioned product revisions is a component of Particle's Supply Secure hardware portfolio, a fresh proactive initiative that updates and replaces outdated hardware with a predictable and dependable supply chain of chip-based components.
