Semtech Corporation, a leading global supplier of high-performance analog and mixed-signal semiconductors, has announced that Sweden-based IoT solutions provider Nordic Propeye has integrated Semtech's LoRa devices and the LoRaWAN standard into its new HVAC optimization solution, which is being launched in the US to reduce energy consumption in buildings. The HVAC optimization solution uses LoRa devices and the LoRaWAN protocol to collect data from buildings, analyze the data, and optimize air conditioning and heating systems to use less energy.

“LoRa devices and the LoRaWAN standard are digitally transforming property management with simplified, smart solutions around the globe. Nordic Propeye’s unique solution, incorporating AI technology, allows existing properties to be easily converted to smart, sustainable buildings and delivers cost savings to customers and increased safety for occupants.”

- Marc Pégulu, vice president and general manager for Semtech’s Wireless and Sensing Products Group

The solution uses data from wireless sensor devices to monitor CO2 levels, temperature, humidity, and real-time room occupancy and leverages weather forecasting data and artificial intelligence to continuously learn and predict the temperatures of HVAC zones. Semtech's LoRa devices and LoRaWAN protocol are a safe, scalable, and reliable way to send large amounts of data in real time over a wireless network.

It also has a predictive maintenance feature that alerts building operators when system anomalies arise to prevent equipment failures. The combination of Semtech's LoRa devices, the LoRaWAN protocol, and Nordic Propeyes' HVAC optimization solution provides building operators with increased visibility into the performance of their HVAC systems. The solution is expected to achieve 15–30% energy savings for customers.

Taoglas® Enables Novel IoT Applications with New Invisible Antennas

Taoglas | February 24, 2023

On February 23, 2023, Taoglas®, a reputable provider of antennas and Internet of Things (IoT) components that solve complex engineering challenges, introduced three new invisible antennas with cellular, Wi-Fi, and GNSS technology compatibility. The TFX series is a lightweight, paper-thin, transparent alternative to traditional opaque antennas. The peel-and-stick antennas are ideal for public infrastructure, mobility, transportation, medical devices, and emerging IoT applications. Individually or in custom combinations, the TFX62.A, TFX257.A, and TFX125.A can improve cellular, Wi-Fi, and GNSS antenna installations, respectively. Pre-applied adhesive and an enclosed carrier with a FAKRA connector make deployment simple. A hybrid transparent conductive film with sub-mm thickness is used to offer the same reliability and performance as opaque antennas. Its low-profile design, robust construction, and customizability make it ideal for many scenarios. Example use cases include on-screen placement for parking meters and EV chargers, placement on windows for smart buildings, and in-vehicle connectivity with covertly placed antennas.
