Veniam and Single Digits connect IoT devices to Wi-Fi hotspots

Veniam | May 27, 2022

Veniam_and_Single
Veniam, the market leader in the intelligent edge for the Internet of Moving Things, and Single Digits, a leading provider of Wi-Fi network experiences, have announced a partnership that allows mobile IoT devices and connected vehicles to easily transfer data over Wi-Fi access points while on the move.

Despite the fact that mobile IoT devices like dashcams, telematics units, and linked cars have a variety of wireless interfaces (Wi-Fi, 4G/5G, and so on), their data transfers are frequently limited to the available cellular links. To save money on data, mobile IoT firms broadcast shorter, lower-quality videos, do fewer over-the-air updates, and, as a result, degrade the quality of their end users' experience.

"By partnering with Single Digits we are making it even simpler and cost effective for Veniam customers to get more and better data. Ultimately, it is about providing all moving IoT devices and their specific applications with the best options for edge connectivity at any location and at any time."

João Barros, CEO and founder of Veniam.

This new partnership enables auto OEMs, telematics providers, and application platforms to expand 4G/5G with access to millions of Wi-Fi hotspots across the United States and internationally by combining Veniam's ability to make the most of all wireless interfaces in mobile IoT devices with Single Digits' expertise in automated, seamless wireless connectivity. As a result, customer devices connect quickly and automatically to available Wi-Fi networks based on global regulations specified in the Cloud, eliminating the need for manual logins and time-consuming business processes.

"We're thrilled to enable on-the-move connectivity between cars and mobile IoT devices over wireless networks through our work with Veniam." said John Haspil, VP of the BSGW Business Unit at Single Digits. "Our roaming hub and powerful suite of services and software for Wi-Fi authorization, authentication, and accounting are essential tools for companies incorporating Wi-Fi Offload into their overall network footprint."

Buildings IoT launches UK operations to help to build stakeholders reach net-zero by 2050

Buildings IoT | May 31, 2022

Buildings IoT, based in the United States, has opened offices in the United Kingdom to service the unique demands of building stakeholders in Europe, with the goal of decarbonizing buildings and advancing Net-Zero projects. Buildings IoT will market its IoT Jetstream smart building platform in the UK and across Europe to building owners, managers, investors, contractors, and systems integrators. Les Russell, Director of Business Development, is in charge of Buildings IoT's UK operation. Russell will be in charge of overseeing all primary partner connections, as well as providing assistance and raising the visibility of Buildings IOT across Europe. "Smart building technologies have reached an inflection point of maturity and performance, with speed to impact and a tangible ROI. The UK market is ripe with opportunity, thanks to the country's concerns over carbon reduction, indoor air quality, and financial due diligence requirements. The UK's goal to reach Net-Zero by 2050 is also a major driver of demand for proven solutions, including those from companies like Buildings IOT, that hold decades of domain expertise in both building infrastructure and platform technologies. I'm thrilled to be part of a team that recognises the UK as a global leader in sustainability and environmental consciousness, setting a high benchmark in energy efficiency standards for buildings," explains Russell, who has spent the last five years in the smart buildings industry. The Buildings IOT UK team will look for potential to improve occupant experience and realize overall operating efficiencies in a number of London-based commercial buildings, including office and manufacturing buildings. The organization will collaborate with important partners who have clients with specific ESG [environment, social, and governance] goals, as well as energy efficiency, sustainability, indoor air quality, security, and other operational factors. "We're happy to have Les on our team. His strong commercial background and business acumen made him a perfect fit. In his last role, Les identified Buildings IOT as a company to assist with a high-profile customer and a bespoke request around data optimisation. His belief in the Buildings IOT solution and understanding of what the UK market needed made it seem natural to bring Les on board," Gina Elliott, Chief Services Officer of Buildings IoT. Buildings IoT will expand its European presence by hiring engineers and customer success representatives in the United Kingdom. In addition, the company continues to use Agile development methods, enabling partners and customers to participate in the development of its smart building platform roadmap.

Particle updates P2 and Photon 2 Wi-Fi for mass-market applications

Particle | June 30, 2022

Particle, an integrated IoT Platform-as-a-Service designed to connect the disconnected, unveiled improvements to its next-generation embedded IoT Wi-Fi solutions in the form of the P2 and Photon 2 hardware modules. The Photon 2 (coming in late 2022) offers an improved feather form factor compatible development kit for quick prototyping, and the P2 module (generally available July 29) is powered by the Particle Platform-as-a-Service and boasts advanced functionality for low-cost, integrated designs in applications that are poorly served by cellular connectivity, like factory floors, hospitals, smart buildings, and security monitoring. Enterprise IoT applications now have the flexibility of both Wi-Fi and cellular connectivity options for the first time. Customers previously relied on pricey and data-intensive cellular connectivity to their devices in order to have secure connectivity with the required computing power to operate enterprise applications. Particle delivers enterprise-grade security and communication standards, more potent computing, and supply safely assured availability with the release of P2. For enterprise-grade applications, where RF performance, low power consumption, security, and quick time-to-market are crucial, Particle's Wi-Fi modules and development kits are created. These updated components are the successors to the P0/P1 and Photon/Argon and represent a new enterprise Wi-Fi product line. They add support for low-power Bluetooth, a more potent processor, more memory, and broader support for enterprise Wi-Fi configurations like 5GHz and 802.1X networks, as well as supply security (Secure Supply LP). "We've seen an astonishing 700% increase in IoT cyber-attacks since 2019 and an inability for products to be future-ready against new and emerging standards. At Particle, device and network versatility and security remain a sticking point for Wi-Fi connected IoT devices. To keep pace with a constantly changing IoT cyber threat landscape and expanding customer choices for enterprise deployments, the P2 and Photon 2 updates provide the ideal balance of standardization and security for seamless forward compatibility that gives developers the power to get to market faster," Adam Warmington, Senior Product Manager at Particle Each of the aforementioned product revisions is a component of Particle's Supply Secure hardware portfolio, a fresh proactive initiative that updates and replaces outdated hardware with a predictable and dependable supply chain of chip-based components.
