There is a lot of conversation about the Industrial IoT (also know as the IIoT or, in Europe, Industry 4.0) and how it can transform manufacturing, supply chain, food processing, and other industrial operations through big data and new efficiencies. Amid all of the predictions and speculation regarding what could be, the nuts and bolts of a real-world IIoT implementation are sometimes lost.
The Internet of Things is growing rapidly, impacting industries from manufacturing to retail to healthcare and beyond. Developing apps and device firmware for the IoT, however, is still a very uncertain task. IoT is taking hold across many industries, but platform confusion, skills deficits, and security concerns are creating uncertainty for developers around the world as they try to evolve from concept to commercial deployment.

The team at Best Computer Science Degrees explain, “On the Internet, no one knows you’re a toaster. That might be what people say when the Internet of Things (IoT) — aka, Internet of Everything (IoE) — has widespread use, instead of just the 10 billion “things” that are currently connected online. When that time comes, anything and everything could be connected.”
The Internet of Things has major possibilities in education, from more efficient thermostats to engagement-monitoring wearables. Today, in conjunction with the kickoff of ISTE 2017, CDW released new research into how K–12 professionals are approaching IoT. Nearly half of the school districts surveyed say they have a formal IoT strategy in place with interactive devices, security-focused technology and energy-saving resources in mind. With mobile devices becoming common, schools are branching out to deploy more innovative IoT. About 48 percent of schools use smart security cameras, 37 percent invested in smart lighting and 35 percent rely on smart HVAC systems.
