Internet of things set to revolutionize the world

There is a new technology lurking in our midst that a few savvy entrepreneurs have harnessed with explosive results.

Computer specialists predict it will stir a societal revolution.

It bears an unassuming name - the internet of things (IoT.) And it is exactly as it sounds.

“You have things,” explained Greg Dashwood, product lead for IoT at Microsoft Canada, referring to devices such as cell phones, thermostats and alarms.  ���They produce data. Services help you make sense of that data.”

Once the information reported by these things is collected and analyzed, amazing things can happen.
This is all according to a panel of technology experts who assembled Dec. 3 at Mississauga’s RIC Centre to discuss the IoT. The not-for-profit centre assists entrepreneurs throughout Peel Region with free support services. All specialists represented companies based in Mississauga.

“This is a massive opportunity to enable companies to get massive value,” said Dashwood. “Now is the time to do something incredible.”
