On February 21, 2023, Sequans Communications S.A. announced that Next Meters, a global leader in utility metering equipment, will use its Monarch 2 LTE-M/NB-IoT platform to deliver connectivity for new utility metering products in North America.

Municipalities and utility companies will be able to utilize smart metering technology irrespective of the life-cycle stage of their current metering systems thanks to Next Meters' new range of outdoor metering products. From augmenting existing meters to complete solution deployments, the new product line enables customers to progress into an optimal solution for them at every stage.

The Monarch 2 LTE-M/NB-IoT platform from Sequans is a highly integrated, multi-band solution that supports 5G massive IoT and provides high-performance connectivity with ultra-low energy consumption. It is a single-chip LTE-M, and NB-IoT solution designed explicitly for narrowband IoT applications, such as meters, wearables, sensors, and other M2M and IoT devices.

Monarch 2 is one of the industry's most developed cellular IoT chip solutions. It expands on the success of the first-generation Monarch and enables the reuse of all of the software and architecture by Monarch. In addition, Monarch 2 features many significant enhancements, such as an integrated secure enclave with certified EAL5+ security that enables integrated eSIM functionality.
