Omnispace, the business that is redefining mobile communications, announced a partnership with Lacuna Space to provide groundbreaking internet of things (IoT) service.
This collaboration will make way for the commercial launch of a global, open-standards-based IoT network, which will be the first of its type. The LoRaWAN protocol will be used to allow direct-to-satellite connectivity for a variety of IoT devices. The protocol will use Lacuna's LR-FHSS technology, which was developed expressly for high-capacity IoT networks. It will operate on-orbit after several years of non-geostationary satellite testing and optimization. The service will allow devices to link easily across existing terrestrial networks and hitherto unconnected places worldwide, leveraging Omnispace's licensed 2GHz S-band spectrum rights and merging Omnispace and Lacuna infrastructure.

In Q3 2022, this joint Omnispace-Lacuna endeavor will start servicing clients and distribution partners, enabling asset tracking, fleet management, and data collecting across industries throughout the world. The two businesses will use the LoRaWAN standard to provide low-power, ubiquitous connectivity by linking terrestrial networks with global satellite coverage. The first set of Lacuna sensors are about the size of a palm of a hand and can connect to a satellite for several years on a single charge, giving customers access to economic and streamlined communications.
