A New Approach to IoT Security

March 1, 2016

Devices connected to a secure IoT network should make only outbound connections. These connections are not vulnerable to the kind of attacks that open inbound ports are. The outbound-only design pattern eliminates one major threat to IoT devices. To support this design pattern, we’ll also need to use a publish/subscribe communication design so devices can send data bi-directionally. With the communication design pattern articulated, how do we make sure it scales to handle the unprecedented amount of data those 50 billion new IoT devices will create?

HOW TO ACHIEVE SUCCESS WITH THE IOT?

whitePaper | December 7, 2021

Achieving success with the Internet of Things (IoT)requires a lot more than just selecting the right technology. This helpful guide tackles the aspects of IoT implementation that companies wrestle with the most, such as creating a strong business case, managing security requirements, and identifying the top requirements of a successful system. We also take a deep dive into the most common challenges that early IoT adopters have encountered—from budget constraints to cultural resistance to change—with advice on how to overcome these challenges to obtain real and tangible benefits.

Securing Devices in Advanced Metering Infrastructures

whitePaper | January 8, 2020

Smart grid managers and Head End System (HES) vendors depend on data to drive their business. Receiving and analyzing accurate data from grid endpoints - the smart meters - is the main element that determines business success. Their customers, Distribution System Operators (DSOs) and Advanced Metering Infrastructures (AMI) managers, then use this data for crucial processes: monitoring energy demand and production, load shifting to maintain a persistent grid balance at all times and billing customers. Each tiny bit of data is the starting point for monetization and asset management and it must be accurate and trusted in order to keep power flowing.

The Rise of Single Pair Ethernet in IIoT

whitePaper | May 12, 2022

Traditionally the networking architectures used within the industrial domain have been many and varied. With its established enterprise IT roots, Ethernet was always going to be the backbone network of choice to link the worlds of operational technology (OT) and information technology (IT) together. However, since the arrival of Industrial IoT (IIoT), connecting all the production assets, such as sensors, actuators, robots, and the myriad of other equipment, typically involved proprietary, vendor-specific networking. The availability of single-pair Ethernet (SPE) looks set to change this legacy approach.

Different Dimensions of IOT Security

whitePaper | December 20, 2019

IOT is wirelessly connecting things to the internet using sensors, RFID’s and remotely accessing and managing them over our phone or through our voice. IOT uses various communication protocols such as Zigbee, 6LowPan, Bluetooth and has bi directional communication for exchange of information. The database for IOT is cloud which is also vulnerable to security threats. The increasing amount of popularity of IoT and its pervasive usage has made it more recurrent to prominent cyber-attacks such as botnet attack, IoT ransom ware, DOS attack, RFID hack.

Best Practice For End-To-End IoT Security

whitePaper | January 31, 2022

Security concerns remain a major barrier to IoT adoption for as many as 85% of IoT industry leaders1. Fraud is growing in this area, causing widespread agreement across the ecosystem that securing the IoT application is the only way to fully develop its business potential. The good news is the vast majority of attacks can be prevented – and the resilience of any IoT deployment significantly improved – with measures that are simple and cost-effective to implement.
