Extend the Value of M2M Modules with Firmware Over-the-Air (FOTA) Updating

March 1, 2016

Firmware over-the-air (FOTA) updating gives corporate adopters of M2M a fast and cost-e" ective way to remotely perform software maintenance. With FOTA, new software versions are delivered over the air to modules in the ! eld, and software updates are performed remotely without having to send a technician on-site. FOTA technology can extend the value of M2M modules while ensuring return on investment in M2M. FOTA can be used to expand a module’s functionality and services throughout its lifetime, and mitigate downtime in the event of a software malfunction. For example, a utility provider can save $50-$100 per module to not have to “roll a truck” for an individual service call. Leading M2M module manufacturers, such as Motorola’s M2M Wireless Modules division, SIMCom and Telit Wireless Solutions, have adopted FOTA and made it a standard feature of new module shipments. Red Bend Software estimates that by the end of 2010, approximately 40% of new M2M module shipments will be FOTA capable. Some module manufacturers like Telit o" er software update services using FOTA.

Transforming Endpoints with Artificial Intelligence

whitePaper | August 5, 2021

There has never been so much compute power available in IoT devices - now is the time to be designing and deploying true intelligence in IoT endpoints. Devices which are aware of their environment are capable of adding huge value to the data they collect and the services which they enable. This paper explores how new and emerging technology can enable your devices to see, hear and feel what is going on, interpret what they sense, take autonomous actions and generate real, trusted, valued data for the cloud. Recent developments in hardware and software will enable a step change in the capability of resource-constrained endpoint platforms, allowing developers to build vision, voice and vibration capability, coupled with genuine intelligence at the endpoint.

Security Impact of IoT on the Enterprise

whitePaper | November 28, 2019

We are moving to a time where many ‘things’ that we know and use have the capability to be connected to a network either wired or wirelessly. The way we use technology is becoming more integrated in all aspects of our daily lives and is steadily integrating within the enterprise environment. A core concern for businesses is therefore the risk of introducing Internet of Things (IoT) devices to the enterprise.
