PTC's ThingWorx acquisition extends product lifecycle toInternet of Things

The product lifecycle has traditionally been associated with the first half of the product's life, from ideation through design, development, test, and manufacturing.However, product companies are discovering that much of their brand equity - and revenue - is now coming from services that are delivered to the customer during the latter half of the product lifecycle, while the products are in operation. As such, service is growing in importance as a revenue center for product centric companies. With growth of connectivity and evolution of smart devices, products are becoming smarter and connected, opening yet a new avenue for product companies to address with services.
