"Reducing Datacenter Energy Usage Via PowerSaving IP and System Design Techniques"

March 1, 2016

"As the modern world becomes increasingly connected, businesses and consumers alike are relying more and more on digital data—from documents to video to audio. Behind the scenes, datacenters that manage all of this digital data are a somewhat silent, yet impactful, part of this connectivity revolution. These centers are lined with servers that process digital data for everything from social media status updates to web searches to cloud computing. Each of these servers requires energy to run as well as energy to keep them cool, and the centers are typically filled with additional machines for redundancy. In the US alone, datacenters consume anywhere from 1.5% to 3% of the country’s energy production. How can the chip design industry make datacenters more energy efficient? This paper examines system techniques, including virtualization, as well as design considerations and protocol improvements that can lower the energy utilization of datacenters."

The Rise of Single Pair Ethernet in IIoT

whitePaper | May 12, 2022

Traditionally the networking architectures used within the industrial domain have been many and varied. With its established enterprise IT roots, Ethernet was always going to be the backbone network of choice to link the worlds of operational technology (OT) and information technology (IT) together. However, since the arrival of Industrial IoT (IIoT), connecting all the production assets, such as sensors, actuators, robots, and the myriad of other equipment, typically involved proprietary, vendor-specific networking. The availability of single-pair Ethernet (SPE) looks set to change this legacy approach.

Advancing the Industrial Internet of Things

whitePaper | December 6, 2019

This white paper demonstrates how two leading organizations in the Internet of Things (IoT) can work together towards a common purpose of a robust, interoperable, flexible and efficient Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). We first introduce the two organizations, the Industrial Internet Consortium (IIC) and oneM2MTM, then illustrate their technical approach to IoT solutions, demonstrating how both organizations’ thought leaders envision the growth of IoT through collaboration.

Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA) and its Adoption

whitePaper | September 22, 2022

The complexity and cost of ensuring network security and remote access for employees and key business partners can overwhelm smaller businesses. Higher cloud adoption, a distributed workforce, mobile employees, the proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT) devices, and increasingly sophisticated cyberattacks make traditional methods of ensuring secure communications across your organization overly complex and expensive. Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA) reduces the surface area for attack by following zero trust tenets to provide access to applications. ZTNA from OpenVPN Cloud creates a private, secure overlay network for businesses, which connects all of their applications, private networks, workforce, and IoT devices together without needing to own and manage a multitude of complex and hard-to-scale security and data networking gear.

IoT Security for Commercial Buildings

whitePaper | November 24, 2019

In 2017 the number of connected devices in commercial buildings surpassed the mark of 1 billion. By 2021 this number will grow to more than 3,6 billion devices. However – even though there are so many connected devices, applications for Smart Buildings remain in silos, each with their own proprietary solutions.
