Securing Real –Time Communications and The Internet of Things

March 1, 2016

Thanks to the Internet, we live in a connected world. That connectivity now extends beyond the
set of applications, web, email, Instant Messaging (IM) and Voice over IP (VoIP) that we all take
for granted to link a wide range of different devices. These "devices" include such diverse items
as door locks, surveillance cameras and even badgers and sheep (Wales Online, 2015). The
Internet of Things (IoT), which interconnects these devices, is a fertile research area, but as is
often the case with new technologies, IoT security has not received the attention it deserves.
There are a number of factors which mean that traditional security technologies, such as those
developed to protect email services and web sites, does not address the IoT security
requirements.

The Right Approach to Zero Trust for IoT Devices

whitePaper | May 18, 2022

Networking and security teams have historically relied on protections at the network perimeter to secure the entire enterprise. The internal network was deemed trusted and secure. While everything outside was considered “dirty,” everything on the internal network was considered “clean,” and application traffic would flow unrestricted. However, recent and developing shifts in enterprise working models are having a far-reaching effect on the traditionally managed network perimeter for security.
