"Security Guidance for Early Adopters of the Internet of Things (IoT)"

March 1, 2016

This document is a product of the CSA Mobile Working Group — IoT Initiative. The document was created using inputs from a number of security and mobility experts representing diverse industries. We have tried to incorporate references and information from existing guidance in the field whenever possible in order to avoid duplication and promote alignment with the work of other industry bodies. The guidance in this document has been created in a manner that allows for usefulness across industries. This was achieved by examining architectures across multiple industries and selecting security controls that would support each industry.

The IoT Trusted Zone

whitePaper | March 17, 2022

Among security best practices, system partitioning separates and isolates security-related hardware, software, and data in a “trusted zone” and tightly limits all attempts to access trusted content from outside the zone. Non-secure software cannot directly access secure resources. The Trusted Zone isolates security-related Microcontroller Unit (MCU) hardware, software, and external devices.

Accelerating the Impact of Industrial IoT in Small and Medium‑Sized Enterprises

whitePaper | February 12, 2020

Small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in the manufacturing sector are being left behind in the Fourth Industrial Revolution. This worrying trend is exacerbating economic inequality, stifling opportunities for social mobility and dragging down global industrial productivity. To benefit from the technological advancements of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, SMEs will need to overcome a range of challenges including a dearth of skilled employees, lack of access to capital and unclear returns on investment, a need to revamp their firm’s infrastructure and processes, a need to update information technology and operational technology, and navigate a nascent technology landscape that is currently poised to serve larger companies.

Empowering DSOs to secure the Smart Grid

whitePaper | February 6, 2020

As the world’s growing need for energy meets the power of the Internet of Things, the traditional energy marketplace is rapidly transforming. Millions of meters and energy assets are connected and digitized each year, providing enormous benefits to the entire ecosystem: real time tracking of energy production and consumption data, optimized load balancing systems, streamlined operations and billing systems to name a few. As connectivity expands and the landscape is digitalizing, new distributed energy resources (DERs) and stakeholders are able to integrate into and expand the grid. DERs offer non-carbon resources that improve the energy sector’s overall carbon footprint, a key benefit for everyone.
