SFScon15 - Charalampos Doukas: "Decentralising the IoT through adoptive Gateways"

March 1, 2016

Proxmox VE is a complete open source server virtualization management solution based on Debian. It supports both Linux containers (LXC) and KVM virtual machines and makes them available under an integrated web-based management GUI. With Proxmox VE companies can manage virtual machines, storage (such as Ceph, ZFS, NFS, GlusterFS, and iSCSI), virtualized networks, and highly available clusters. This talk will give attendees an overview of the new features of Proxmox VE 4.0 focusing on the new Proxmox VE HA Manager and the container technology Linux Containers (LXC). It will present how highly available virtual machines can be managed in a multi-node cluster. The talk will also share some insights on how it is to be a developer in open source projects and how to get into it as a student.

Versa SD-WAN Solution Use Case for Satellite ISPs

whitePaper | July 19, 2022

Satellite networks offer their customers several advantages over other types of connectivity. They are easily deployed, reliable, and allow a wide degree of mobility, making them a perfect fit for Disaster Recovery Plans (DRP). They are an essential asset in places where other connectivity methods are not available, such as oil rigs, vessels, or even planes. However, they have several characteristics that make them harder to manage when compared to other kinds of networks. This document will discuss those challenges and explore how the Versa Operating System (VOS™) can help you extract better performance out of your Satellite links.

Internet of Things (IoT) in the Federal Government

whitePaper | June 8, 2021

The Internet of Things is one of the most impactful IT innovations of our time. As consumers, we already encounter the IoT in our daily lives with smart items such as TVs, watches, and phones. As we journey further in time, IoT will become a ubiquitous aspect of life at home and in the workplace. Gartner defines the IoT as the network of physical objects that contain embedded technology to communicate and sense or interact with their internal states or the external environment.” More simply, IoT devices are computers (typically very small), that are embedded into an object to perform a function (e.g., collect data, run software) and connect to a network (e.g., the internet). For example, an IoT device could be an assembly line sensor capable of detecting minute deficiencies and determining when equipment needs repair.
