The IoT—sometimes referred to as the Industrial Internet of Things or Industrial Internet—is a term that describes the revolution of embedding chips, sensors, software and other forms of electronic connectivity in physical objects in order to collect and exchange data. It allows objects to be online and communicate with one another and be sensed and/or controlled remotely. Yes, mobile phones, wearable technologies such as the Apple Watch, and other consumer devices are part of this revolution, but it extends far beyond a few consumer devices.
