THE INTERNET THINGS BUSINESS INDEX A quiet revolution gathers pace

March 1, 2016

The quiet revolution is taking shape. Businesses across the world are piloting the use of the IoT to improve their internal operations and are preparing a stream of IoT-related products and services. Consumers might not recognise them as such, but that will not stop them from being launched, as few end users need to know that user-based car insurance, for example, is an IoT-based application.Yet some important unknowns remain. Nobody knows what the winning business models are going to be. Even seasoned management consultants will struggle to provide definitive answers. It is a matter of experimenting with different models to see which ones work. The main message for latecomers and doubters is to consider the opportunities offered by the IoT—if nothing else for improving internal operations: the vast majority of survey respondents agree that companies that are slow to integrate the IoT risk falling behind the competition.

The Right Approach to Zero Trust for IoT Devices

whitePaper | May 18, 2022

Networking and security teams have historically relied on protections at the network perimeter to secure the entire enterprise. The internal network was deemed trusted and secure. While everything outside was considered “dirty,” everything on the internal network was considered “clean,” and application traffic would flow unrestricted. However, recent and developing shifts in enterprise working models are having a far-reaching effect on the traditionally managed network perimeter for security.

Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA) and its Adoption

whitePaper | September 22, 2022

The complexity and cost of ensuring network security and remote access for employees and key business partners can overwhelm smaller businesses. Higher cloud adoption, a distributed workforce, mobile employees, the proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT) devices, and increasingly sophisticated cyberattacks make traditional methods of ensuring secure communications across your organization overly complex and expensive. Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA) reduces the surface area for attack by following zero trust tenets to provide access to applications. ZTNA from OpenVPN Cloud creates a private, secure overlay network for businesses, which connects all of their applications, private networks, workforce, and IoT devices together without needing to own and manage a multitude of complex and hard-to-scale security and data networking gear.

Private 5G Mobile Networks for Industrial IoT

whitePaper | March 1, 2020

Private mobile networks designed and deployed specifically for enterprise users provide opportunities to optimize and redefine business processes in ways that are either impractical or not possible within the limitations of wired and Wi-Fi networks. For industrial users, the ability to design mobile networks to meet the coverage, performance, and security requirements of production-critical applications is fundamental to the new wave of cyberphysical systems known as Industry 4.0.
